CTC also has economic problems

Havana, Cuba. – The Central of Workers of Cuba (CTC, official), the only union allowed by the authorities in Cuba, faces serious economic problems, with millionaire figures stopped collecting in recent years, which has prevented the self -financing of its structures.

Although here in Cuba, information about the movement of high and low in the union sections of the CTC is usually provided, it is clear that the considerable decrease in the price is due to the great disinterest that the official unions have experienced in recent times, which demonstrates the low interest of Cuban workers.

The emphasis on the collection of the union quota, however, remains a prioritized task in the base sections of the union. To the point that one of the most recurring approaches in the municipal and provincial conferences prior to the 22 Congress of the CTC, is that the union work in many places is limited to trying to collect the union quota, to the detriment of acting on behalf of the interests of the workers, or being counterpart of the administrations.

Although the information appeared in Workers Do not manifest it, it is evident that one of the main concerns of the Cuban trade unionist hierarchy is that the reduction of its income affects the financing of parasitic structures – at municipal, provincial and national levels – with which the unions of the different branches of the economy load.

And, precisely, the existence of these higher structures evidences the verticalism that is present in all the entities and organizations of the Nation, a verticalism that, in cases like this, confirms the denaturation of the unions sponsored by Castroism. That is, they are mere instances to mobilize and indoctrinate workers, and not mechanisms organized from below to defend workers.

Of course, another element that affects the non -compliance with the income provided by the Mandamases of the CTC in relation to the collection of the union quota is the low unionization of the workers of the non -state sector of the economy. In this sense, many figures are not offered, but it is estimated that less than half of the members of the MSMEs, non -agricultural cooperatives and self -employed workers belong to the unions attached to the CTC. The above occurs despite the enormous effort of the professional cadres of the organization to affiliate to that large mass of workers. Now specialists and official journalists, in their despair, seek formulas that allow increasing the collection of the union quota between the affiliates to the CTC. This last method, of undoubted interference in the economy of each worker, has already been implemented in the 80s, when a day of having to finance the militias of territorial troops (MTT) began to be deducted.

But, whatever the formula they use to recover the income lost by the default of the union quota, the truth is that every day the CTC is more discredited before Cuban workers.
