The Popular Pension Fund Administrator (AFP Popular) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) renewed their collaboration agreement for two years, reaffirming their commitment to improving the quality of life and comprehensive care for the elderly in the country.
The agreement also provides for the completion of a diploma in geriatric care, a national study that provides evidence for public policies on violence in older people, as well as the promotion of trusts that contribute to the sustainability of the centers.
Among the achievements achieved, oral, hearing and visual health sessions stand out, as well as physiotherapy sessions and cognitive stimulation programs; the training of caregiver staff in key areas such as nutrition and respectful care; the remodeling and equipping of the centers, to guarantee decent and safe spaces; social awareness plans on the rights of older adults, and the integration of new strategic alliances that strengthen comprehensive care.
Since 2021, AFP Popular and UNFPA have invested more than RD$30.5 million in initiatives that have transformed care for the elderly in the centers of Boca Chica, San José de Ocoa and Puerto Plata.
With this renewal of the agreement, the model will be extended to the Clemente Pérez Day Home in Pedernales, recently inaugurated with an investment of RD$37.5 million by AFP Popular, thus expanding the reach to new communities.

“At AFP Popular we believe that investing in the quality of life of older adults is investing in the Dominican family and the future of the country. The renewal of this agreement with UNFPA is not only a social program, but a strategic commitment to build stronger and more sustainable communities,” said Luis José Jiménez, executive vice president and general manager of AFP Popular, who was accompanied by the commercial vice president, Adela Báez.
“The achievements achieved between 2022 and 2025, the result of the collaboration between AFP Popular and UNFPA, demonstrate the potential of strategic alliances to materialize comprehensive care, which guarantees dignified attention, thus ensuring the sustainability of the model and reaffirming the commitment to the rights and dignity of this population,” said Mario Serrano, national representative of UNFPA.
This alliance positions AFP Popular and the UN Population Fund as leaders in the construction of a more inclusive society prepared for aging.
According to the X Census of Population and Housing 2022, those over 60 years of age already represent 13.3% of the Dominican population and the trend is that it will continue to grow in the coming years.
