Electoral Registry closes this October 14, reports Chief of Reniec

There is a week for the closing of Padrón for the General Elections 2026, which will take place in April next year. Given this scenario, Carmen Velarde, Chief of the RENIEC, presented the progress of the purification of the registration of citizens who will be enabled to vote in these elections.

In his participation before the Commission of Science, Innovation and Technology of the Congress of the Republic he informed that it has been working with other entities and that citizens can update their data until October 14, date on which the electoral roll will close.

“I invite everyone to build together the most refined electoral roll of institutional history. The register closes this October 14 and, after that date, we will publish it for five days, physically in the farthest areas already through the web in urban areas,” he said.

Velarde went to this session to also inform about the work done by the RENIEC in the framework of the eventual implementation of the digital vote. During the meeting, the official said that the entity responsible for the development and application of this new voting system is the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE).

He indicated that Reniec continues with the process of identification of citizens, especially prioritized groups that can access the digital vote by delivery of the electronic ID.

On the other hand, he informed that he has been working with entities such as the Ministry of Health and the INPE for the purification of the electoral roll.

“For the first time in the history of Reniec and Peru, in an unprecedented act, we are purifying the register inter -institutionally. There were narratives that the dead said vote and not, we do not want narratives; and that is why we are using interoperability. The Ministry of Health is happening to us all the medical death certificates. Electoral Register, “he explained.

Velarde indicated that the Judiciary also has been informing its institution about “cases of presumed deaths”; while the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) “is certifying which people are sentenced” and held in a penitentiary center.

“The Institute of Legal Medicine is making us violent deaths too, people NN, who nobody claimed, to also register it as people who have already died. We work with Interpol, with the Latin American Civil Registry, Identity and Vital Statistics Council (Clarciev) that helps us to look for traces of people trying to impersonate Peruvians when they are really people who come from another country, who have another nationality,” he concluded.
