The federal government delivered on Monday (6) 2,837 housing units of the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program (MCMV) at the residential Canto da Serra, in Imperatriz (MA).
With an investment of R $ 358.6 million from the federal government, the Enterprise will benefit more than 11 thousand people.
In delivering the houses, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva asked for the commitment of the City Hall, the State Government and the Ministry of Cities to build infrastructure in the neighborhood, with schools, sports courts, health and safety station.
“People don’t just need a roof house to hide from the sun and rain. People need a house that gives them the dignity that human beings need to live well.”
The president said he intends to return to the housing estate in a year to see the results: “This set is not yet my dream, can be improved.”
The Minister of Cities, Jader Filho assured that other equipment will be built, such as Police Station, Full Time School, Daycare, Reference Center for Social Assistance (CRAS) and Basic Health Units, in partnership with the State Government and the City Hall.
“We will do all the necessary works for you to live with dignity. It is no use just delivering the houses, the children need equipment to play ball, have a decent school,” said the minister.
Also attending the event were the governor of Maranhão, Carlos Brandão, the mayor of Imperatriz, Rildo Amaral, the president of Caixa, Carlos Vieira, and the ministers Sonia Guajajara (indigenous peoples) and André Fufuca (sports).
