The director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Juan Manuel Méndez, said Friday that his foray into politics does not respond to sectarian or partisan interests, but to the desire to serve all citizens, regardless of the political flag.
“Remember that my foray into politics is to come to hug all parties, I would not be a sectarian person,” said the official.
Méndez recalled that during his career in the COE he has received support from different presidential efforts.
“When I was active military, I feel a deep thanks for President Fernández, he made me general and kept me in the COE. Then Danilo Medina came and kept me eight more years,” he said.
“What I have always said the President Abinader after 16 years of having served a political party but the country through the efforts of the PLD, it comes and tells me without knowing me I need I need you to accompany me and I accepted with pleasure because of the COE they wanted to vote me all the people who worked with me then I understand that the policy from the point of view that I see it I am sure that most of those who are there.

The official also highlighted the close treatment he has with the current president.
“President Abinader is a person who has distinguished me a lot. I have told you that he writes me at dawn, I an older man calls me at all times, he asks me, he consults me, he supports me,” he said.
“When situations are not that they are not marching well, they march well, what happens is that sometimes many people move away,” he said.
Will the COE address leave?
Regarding his continuity in the COE, Méndez said that his loyalty to the president does not depend on a position.
“I put the two positions that I have available to the president because for me I do not need a position, I do not need an appointment because many of the situations that arise in politics is that,” he admitted.
He said that “I am not looking for something because I have a pension and if not complete with an uber, but something would do.”

Given the questions of the population to do politics, he stressed that “people have to love me, like a slogan that goes around, love me as I am. I am an authentic person.”
He said he has no aspirations for candidacies at the moment: “I am not interested in anything for now.”
