Maduro: Pope Leo XIV will seek the roads to consolidate national peace

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted the role of the Vatican in the consolidation of national peace, before which he assured that, “Pope Leo XIV will seek the roads so that Venezuela consolidates that peace.”

Such statements arose in the context of a letter that the Venezuelan president sent to Pope Leo XIV in recent days, requesting his intervention.

In his program with Maduro +, edition 93, he also thanked the intervention of Pope Leo XIV in the rescue of Venezuelan citizens detained abroad.

Maduro also assured that León has positioned himself as a balanced Pope, of Peace and continuator of Francisco’s legacy.

Humanitarian efforts in the US and Central America

Maduro recalled that Pope Leo XIV intervened in the rescue of the girl Maikelys and in the release of Venezuelan minors retained by the customs immigration and control service (ICE) in the United States. According to the president, 70 children still remain in custody, but more than 45 have already been released thanks to diplomatic efforts.

In the case of Central America, the President mentioned the rescue of 252 Venezuelan citizens who, according to their statements, were “kidnapped, disappeared and wildly tortured” in detention centers in El Salvador. Maduro described these actions as “out of law” and attributed the success of the rescue to the direct intervention of Pope Leo XIV.

Vatican’s role in the search for peace

During his speech, Maduro stressed that Pope Leo XIV has assumed a balanced and peaceful role, in continuity with the legacy of his predecessor, Pope Francis. “The Vatican is not an easy institution, it is centenary … but the Pope has claimed with a lot of balance because he is starting,” said the president.

The president also reiterated his confidence that the Pontiff will contribute to the consolidation of national peace in Venezuela, within the framework of diplomatic and humanitarian efforts that have been developing.
