The Foreign Minister of Colombia, Rosa Villavicencio, indicated that they have advanced diplomatic contacts with the administration of Nicolás Maduro to achieve the release of arbitrarily arrested nationals in Venezuela.
«Venezuela negotiated with the United States and released six people. Then we are in these diplomatic negotiations so that Colombians are also released, ”Villavicencio told RCN news From Spain.
According to the information handled by the Foreign Ministry, there would be at least 40 Colombians detained for political reasons. “Of course we are, in this case of these arbitrary arrests, calling so that these people who are detained in Venezuela can be released,” he reiterated.
In addition, he pointed out that they have recently had a meeting with the relatives of these people, “and we are committed to doing all the actions that in international humanitarian law have to do so that they can have due process.”
«These people are accused of some crimes, but what we ask is due process for them, so that they can have their lawyers and if they have no imputation that means a crime to be released. We ask in the same way, ”he said.

The relatives of the detained Colombians asked Gustavo Petro’s government to intervene to achieve their liberations. Nubia Mise said he knows anything about his relative.
«They always deny the cause, the case. In Venezuela there is no justice (…) no response has been received about the location or the reason why my brother or any of the other nationals found there is retained, ”he said.
Vicky Latorre, another relative of a Colombian detained, said he did not commit any crime. “There was no crime, he entered with his documents in order, passport, all up to date, he went with two other Colombians.”
