Official groups intimidate relatives of political prisoners after "Mass for freedom" In Caracas

What should be an act of prayer and recollection became a new episode of political violence in Venezuela. He Committee for the freedom of political prisoners (Clippve) denounced that this Sunday, October 5, groups of groups officials They tried intimidate mothers, family and activists After the “Mass for Freedom” in Caracas.

The religious ceremony, which aimed to raise prayers for the detainees for political reasons, was dedicated to Venezuelan blessed Dr. José Gregorio Hernández and Mother Carmen Rendileswithin the framework of his canonization.

However, according to the committee through the social network X, at the end of the day the attendees were harassed by violent groups identified with the ruling party.

“This act of faith and hope was a peaceful call for freedom, justice and peace in Venezuela. However, it was again the object of government violence that today remains unpunished,” said the organization.

The committee recalled that it is not the first time that these groups act impunity against relatives of political prisoners. The past August 5Venezuelan mothers were attacked during a vigil in front of the headquarters of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ)while demanding the release of their children.

“The same pattern of violence is repeated. This time it was at the exit of a mass, just as before against the TSJ. The State continues to allow these groups to act without any consequence,” the organization warned.

Called to the Pope

In his message, the calls also raised an order to the Vatican to pronounce against the acts of repression.

“We implore the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV (@pontifex @pontifex_es), that raises his solidarity voice due to the injustice that the most vulnerable in Venezuela suffer today“The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners said.

The so -called “Mass for Freedom” was conceived as a spiritual and peaceful encounter, where family and friends of political prisoners gathered to ask for their liberation and peace in the country. However, the emergence of Chavista groups converted a religious act again into a scenario of harassment and violence, a reflection of the political and social tension that Venezuela is going through.
