The Inter -American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures in favor of Camilo Castro, a French citizens “disappeared” in Venezuela, after considering that their life and personal integrity are in a situation of “severity and urgency.”
The CIDH decision It is based on the disappearance of Castro, professor of Yoga, who traveled to the border between Colombia and Venezuela on June 26 to do a migratory procedure. From the date, the European is “missing.”
According to the request submitted to the Commission, Castro’s relatives have not been able to activate judicial resources in Venezuela because the authorities require the physical presence of an relative to submit any request. Nor has it been possible to “exercise your legal defense” or access consular assistance.
The Venezuelan State, meanwhile, did not provide information to the IACHR.
The Commission concluded that, before the time elapsed and the ignorance of its whereabouts, it increases the possibility of affecting Castro’s rights, so they asked the Venezuelan State to adopt the necessary measures to protect it.
In particular, the commission requested information on whether Camilo Castro is in the custody of the State and, if affirmative, indicate the reason, the circumstances of his detention and if he has been charged with crimes.
In addition, he asked to facilitate Castro’s communication with his family, his legal representatives and the consular authorities of France, clarify whether access to a translator or interpreter has been provided so that he can exercise his rights precisely and inform about the actions adopted in order to investigate the alleged facts that belong to the case.
