In that sense, the inappropriate repairs of batteries and the absence of good practices for use are indicated among the fundamental causes.
Lieutenant Colonel Ernesto Lima, head of Operations of the Fire Department of the Province, told the medium that the residential sector has been the most affected with the occurrence of 20 incidents of this type.
“The most complex situation lies in citizen losses, valued at approximately 95 million pesos,” he added.
Most of these facts occur while electric motorcycles are receiving load inside homes, many times during the time in which its inhabitants sleep, which enhances the possibilities that deaths are also registered.

Jorge Garcías, head of the Technical Fire Prevention Unit in the province, recommended that after the use of this type of motorcycle, a 30 -minute cooling period should be expected before connecting it to the loading source.
According to its criteria, the violation of this procedure significantly increases the risk of battery overheating, as well as the possibility of exploiting and causing a fire.
In turn, he pointed out other factors that can influence incidents related to this type of means of transport, including prolonged exposure to the sun, wet the battery when washing the motorcycle and the use of extensions in poor condition at the time of load.
The serious crisis that public transport lives on the island has made electric motorcycles or “motorinas” become one of the means of transport most used by the population, despite the fact that the acquisition price is out of reach for most.
The number of owners who have resorted to modifications in batteries or load system for greater autonomy is increasingly high.
These variations can leave the batteries exposed to problems derived from the usual cuts and reconnections of electricity that the country is experiencing due to the pronounced generation deficit that persists in the National Electroenergetic System (SEN) for a long time.
