After 72 hours of protests, the residents of Tortí, Chepo and Darién reached an agreement with the authorities for the construction of the Cañita-Darién highway, and opened the road that remained closed in Tortí.
The Minister of Public Works, Rafael Sabonge, went to Chepo this Friday morning and explained that the first thing that was agreed upon is to have initial palliatives until April 7, when the public consultation for the construction of the highway will be held. The specifications will be published in May, according to what he indicated.
“Next Monday we are going to mobilize equipment, materials and resources to the area to start palliatives on the highway,” Sabonge said.
According to the minister, the protest left tens of thousands of dollars in losses.
Personnel from the Ombudsman’s Office also remain in the place, who were mediators of the dialogue.
Earlier protesters clashed with crowd control units, who were seeking to break up the protest.
