The Plenary of Congress of the Republic approved the legislative resolution that declares to have a place for the formation of a criminal case against the Supreme Judge Jorge Salas Arenasas a magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice. The decision, which obtained 50 votes in favor, 21 against and 8 abstentions, implies the lifting of the functional immunity of sandrooms to be criminally investigated.
The Supreme Judge is accused of being the alleged instigator of the crime against the public administration, in the modality of incompatible negotiation or improper use, an illicit provided for in article 399 of the Criminal Code, to the detriment of the State.
The complaint was supported by Congressman Héctor Ventura, a member of the Subcommittee of Constitutional Accusations, who argued that there is sufficient “revealing suspicion” that Salas Arenas contacted former former Walter Ríos to request the hiring of his former Secretary of Trust, Pavel Cárdenas. This evidence links the magistrate with the influence network known as the “white necks of the port”.
For its part, the defense of Salas Arenas, in charge of lawyer Elí Vidal, denied the charges and pointed out that the discharge test was not properly valued, where the witness would have denied all imputation against his defendant.
In compliance with the regulations of the Congress, the file of the constitutional accusation will be immediately sent to the Prosecutor’s Office to initiate the corresponding criminal actions, as provided by the Political Constitution of Peru.
