President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited on Friday (3) some of the works being carried out in Belém (PA) to hold the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), next month. Among them are the drainage channels, the cultural and leisure complex of the city of the city and the place that will host COP30 events.

By the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), for example, there are R $ 1.5 billion of funding to the Government of Pará. “When COP leaves, every penny we put here is from the people of Belém. Then no one takes it off more,” he said during a visit to the channel works.
“COP is the event that will last 20 days, at most. Then all these works will be to the people of the state of Pará, to the people of the city of Belém. When these channels are well treated, beautiful, the streets are well treated and beautiful, here will also come tourist. If we improve the quality of life of the people of Belém, that means increasing more tourists to the state of Pará and Belém,” Lula said.
The agenda in Belém began this Thursday (2), when Lula inaugurated one of the showcases of COP30, the Linear Park of Doca, and visited the facilities of the Sewage Treatment Station (ETE) UNA.
This morning, the entourage was in the works of macrodrainage and urbanization of the Union Canal, which are part of the set of works already delivered from the Vilete, Leal Martins and Timbó channels. The goal is to mitigate the flooding problems in the capital of Pará.
The channel covers 350 meters of rectification; 700 meters of water supply network; 700 meters of sanitary sewage network; 450 meters of rain drainage; 3 walkways; 1 bridge and road urbanization and sidewalks with tactile floor.
Then, Lula checked the works of the Futuro II, a cultural and leisure complex in conclusion, which requalifies the former industrial port of Belém. The project occupies an area of 50,000 square meters and brings together five historical warehouses, which were restored to house the Amazon Bioeconomics and Innovation Park, the Amazon Museum, Caixa Cultural and the Gastronomic Port.
THE Amazonian Museum It had a technical partnership and non -refundable financial support of R $ 10 million from BNDES. The space houses the exhibitions Amazonianby photographer Sebastião Salgado, and Ajuríof artists from the region, conceived exclusively for this museum.
“The complex is the symbol of a new time for Belém and the Amazon, with the union of culture, science, innovation and tradition, to generate sustainable development and place the region at the center of discussions on global solutions. Delivery reinforces the state’s commitment to the construction of a sustainable economic model, based on the valorization of biodiversity,” says a statement from the presidency.
COP30 Headquarters
This afternoon, President Lula will survey the city park, which will host the official events of COP30. It is located in an area of 500,000 square meters that was once an airport and was delivered to the population in July this year, receiving more than 670,000 visitors. Now it is temporarily closed to assemble conference structures.
The site brings together the Center for Creative Economics, the Gastronomic Center, Cinema, Theater, Library, Contemplation Tower, Sports Courts, Cycle Light and a Children’s Water Park. There is also a landscape project with more than 2,500 trees, 190 thousand ornamental plants and 83,000 square meters of grassy areas. It incorporates climate mitigation technologies such as the use of photovoltaic solar energy and rainwater capture and reuse systems.
The City Park will be the main stage of COP30, housing the blue and green areas of the conference. The Blue Zone is where official negotiations occur, the leaders and national pavilions summit. Access is restricted to official delegations, heads of state, observers and accredited press.
Already the green zone is an open space for exposure of partners and activities for the population of the country. According to the Ministry of the Environment, at COP30, the space will focus on topics such as the implementation of the Climate Plan, which will be the guide to the actions to combat the climate crisis of Brazil by 2035.
