Twenty -four hours after they were captured by Israel, members of the GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILHA They continue incommunicable and without diplomatic support. Brazilian diplomats tried twice to have access to the 12 members of the Brazilian delegation who participated in the flotilla and are detained at Porto Ashdod in Israel.
The access was denied even after the diplomatic corps claim that the activists were already being questioned.
“We had the information of lawyers that interrogation were underway. I informed it to Itamaraty. They contacted to try again, but received the negative meeting with the Brazilians,” said Lara Souza, coordinator of the Brazilian delegation in the flotilla and wife of activist Thiago Ávila, who is also incommunicado. “It was not allowed to contact the Brazilian embassy. Neither to him nor to any of the other Brazilians,” he said.
In all, about 500 people who were part of the flotilla were captured in international waters by the Israeli forces.
“The lawyer was initially not authorized. Then the lawyers warned that she would have been able to enter. But she still could not give feedback,” they explained.
The reason presented by Israel to prohibit access was the holiday of Yom Kippurwhich would prevent regular procedures. According to the Brazilian embassy in Israel, it will be possible to contact Brazilians from this Friday (3).
