Who is the owner of Nacional Monte de Piedad?

National Monte de Piedad does not have an owner as such. Since 1922 it has been handled as a non -profit private assistance institution, dedicated to supporting vulnerable people through their own goods and constituting heritage for this purpose.

It all started on February 25, 1775, when Don Pedro Romero de Terreros decided to found the National Monte de Piedad, with a simple and powerful purpose: to help those who needed him the most. Since its inception, the institution became an economic shelter for Mexican families, offering loans that would allow them to get ahead in difficult times.

Its most iconic symbol is the open house Monte, located in the first picture of Mexico City, next to the Metropolitan Cathedral. Although this building was officially acquired in 1836, he has witnessed hundreds of stories and millions of families who have trusted the institution over the years.

Today, National Monte de Piedad has more than 300 branches throughout the country and collaborates with more than 550 civil society organizations, consolidating itself as a pillar for millions of Mexicans.

Why did the workers of Mount of Piedad go on strike?

From the first minute of October 1, about 2,000 workers of the National Monte de Piedad placed red and black flags in more than 300 effort branches throughout Mexico.

The union, headed by Arturo Zayún González, accused the administration of maintaining a position of “closing” and committing constant violations of the collective work contract, including attempts to liquidate it and unjustified dismissals.

The labor conflict has been dragged for five years, with a history of expansion of schedules without extra payment, reduction of workforce in about 900 employees and elimination of retirement benefits for new income.

In previous strikes, more than 390 valuing experts were fired and then re -re -re -re -reached “protection”. The STPS called for dialogue, remembering the agreement signed in March 2024 that amended several contract clauses, although new differences arose about its interpretation.
