Given the recent digital threats through social networks and via email, as well as in sheets of paper attached to the sanitary of the faculties, yesterday eight other academic entities of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) decided to suspend face -to -face classes and keep them online, some until October 3 or 4 and others indefinitely.
Meanwhile, the five campuses of the College of Sciences and Humanities (CCH) will have remote classes, while three other faculties agreed to total unemployment until new notice.
After these decisions, there are already 10 faculties in total unemployment and eight that migrated to online classes, while the faculties of music and science maintain active unemployment.
Yesterday, the Faculties of Economy, Law, Chemistry, Accounting and Administration, Veterinary, Sicology and the Faculty of Higher Studies Zaragoza, as well as the Naucalpan and Vallejo Humanities Colleges, determined to carry out the classes via remote.
For their part, the faculties of architecture, medicine and dentistry agreed to total unemployment. The first, of September 29 and until October 4; Medicine resolved that it will be indefinite, and even canceled seminars and master conferences that were scheduled to be carried out throughout this week; and dentistry agreed that it will be until October 3.
In this regard, Arturo Ruiz Ruisánchez, coordinator of Analysis and Concertation of the National University, said that the most important thing is to take care of the mental health of the students, because it depends on that they feel safe and in peace.
“We are going to do everything that is in our hands to reduce the probabilities to the fullest, with emphasis on the security and mental health of our community,” he said, after clarifying that safety reinforcement is not totally effective, but that they will do what is within their reach so that the parents of the students are sure to send their children to the campus of the UNAM.
He admitted that the community is very fearful: “They are very nervous, they are dismayed and is normal.” Therefore, the instruction that occurred from the rectory was to be dialogue with the communities to make decisions together, and that is why it has been decided to have classes online or declare stoppages.
In addition, he pointed out that, after the murder of Jesús Israel in the South CCH, in some faculties there have been bomb threats and aggression to members of the community – “fortunately all false” -, so the complaints were already made in the Attorney General of Mexico City. After that, two people were identified who made these intimidation from false profiles on social networks. They expressed that they did it with the intention of increasing security and apologizing.
At noon yesterday, the community of the National Preparatory School 8 Miguel E. Schulz, located on Lomas de Plateros Avenue, Merced Gómez neighborhood, in the mayor of Álvaro Obregón, lived moments of tension, after school authorities activated the security protocols before an alleged bomb threat, so they dislodged the facilities.
At this time, “in which the community is hurt”, it is essential to “close ranks with firmness and responsibility, to guarantee collective security and well -being,” said the director of the Faculty of Economics, Lorena Rodríguez León, through a statement.
The Law Faculty said that “in response to current circumstances,” classes will be carried out virtually, and reiterated the commitment to the construction of safe and free academic spaces of any type of violence.
The CCH Vallejo pointed out that, “conscious and empathic of the feeling of our community”, as of this Monday until October 3, the face -to -face classes are suspended to “evaluate and establish measures that reinforce security on the campus.”
Even in the University GazetteUNAM highlighted on its cover that the false news and its post -truths “are a threat to society”, so he urged the community to be careful with what they read, look and listen. In addition, he pointed out that artificial intelligence is not therapist, so the institution has different programs to attend to real specialists.
