The drop in tuber prices, eggs and vegetables reduced pressure on August inflation in the state of São Paulo, according to a survey by the Paulista Association of Supermarkets (APAS), done together with the Foundation Institute for Economic Research (FIPE).
The three foodstuffs were responsible for 1.43% deflation last month, accumulating a 4.42% drop in the last 12 months.
“With the good crop and more variety in the gondolas, we can see that fresh products gave an important relief in the consumer’s pocket,” said Acácio Maciel, APAS regional director in Campinas.
In the case of tubers, the retraction was 6.98% in August, resulting in a 13.83% drop in 2025 and 37.53% in 12 months. The potato rejoiced 5.49% in the month.
The justification for prices is the scenario of abundance in the supply of products, with lower prices due to the harvests and appropriate weather conditions.
The onion registered a 11.11%drop, one of the highlights of the month. Already the eggs fell 3.6% in August, fifth consecutive month of falling. But they still accumulate high of 11.83% in the year and 17.01% in 12 months. The explanation is that high costs of feed and energy continue to press the sector.
Finally, vegetables dropped 5.82%in August, remaining virtually stable in the year (0.18%) and 12 months (1.42%).
