The president of the National Confederation of Family Farmers (Conofer), Carlos Roberto Ferreira Lopes, was arrested at dawn on Wednesday (30) on charges of false testimony, after more than nine hours of testimony in the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) that investigates the illegal discounts of beneficiaries of the National Institute of Social Security (INS).
Soon after, during this dawn, he was released at the Senate Legislative Police Station. Asked, the Senate press office did not answer if there was bail for release the detainee.
Carlos Roberto Ferreira Lopes was called to CPMI as a witness, which forced him to tell the truth. After requests from parliamentarians who accused him of lying in his statement, the committee chairman, Senator Carlos Viana (Somos-MG), requested the arrest of the deponent.
“He deliberately lied to CPMI. He tried in every way to convince us that it was a perfectly cool and correct operation. It is not. We know very well that this is money laundering, retired money,” said the senator.

Contradictions

Confer is among the entities with the highest volume of discounts on retirees’ monthly fees, according to an investigation by the Federal Police. Between 2019 and 2024, the collection of the entity with associative discounts would have grown from R $ 6.6 million to more than R $ 40 million, a year.

Second arrest
This is the second prison that occurs in the INSS CPMI. The first was by businessman Rubens Oliveira Costa, also accused of lying in the commission. Costa is appointed as a partner of businessman Antonio Carlos Antunes, known as the INSS Bald and investigated as an alleged operator of the corruption scheme. He says he only provided legal services to associations and denies the accusation.
