The Rio de Janeiro Regional Electoral Court (TRE-RJ), aiming to provide security to the 2026 majority elections, started a work strategy for the election. The Vice-President and Regional Electoral Corregedor, Judge Claudio de Mello Tavares, gathered at the Palace of Democracy, representatives of the State Security Forces Intelligence sectors, as well as members of the Public Prosecution Service and the Federal Regional Attorney.
The first measure to be adopted will be the transfer of electoral sections from areas controlled by organized crime.
The meeting marked the beginning of integration between security agencies to ensure quiet, safe and interference -free elections, focusing on two main fronts against the influence of organized crime on the electoral process.

The measure aims to ensure that the electorate can vote without pressures or intimidation. The work will include the update of the mapping carried out in the 2024 municipal elections and the completion of the changes that remained pending.
The second front provides for the creation of cooperation mechanisms to expand the electoral justice access to information about candidates, allowing to prevent the registration of candidates of people associated with organized crime in a timely manner. The goal is to avoid the infiltration of criminals in the spheres of political power.
“We have voters who vote with fear, such the influence and power of criminals in some areas of the river,” said Judge Claudio de Mello Tavares. He also said that “we will work to modify the voting places that face this reality, with the guidance that the voter does not vote more than 1.5 kilometers from his residence. And to change this reality, we need to prevent people associated with these practices from entering politics,” said the magistrate.
The meeting took place more than a year in advance regarding the 2026 elections. New meetings are planned for the coming months to establish specific guidelines and monitor the advance of planned measures.
