Madrid/The Government of Granada announced Monday that it made “important changes” in its Cuban Workers Program, after a United States application to review the project, and thanked the island authorities to have “accepted.” “Important changes have been implemented to strengthen the administration and supervision of the Cuban Workers Program, after high -level consultations between Granada and Cuban officials in Havana,” the Foreign Ministry of Granada said in a statement.
The Granada authorities indicated that “it was agreed that all Cuban professionals who provide services in Granada will work in equal conditions to those of their Granada counterparts.”

Washington announced last February that it would sanction officials linked to agreements to hire doctors and other Cuban professionals, a decision that was completed this August, when it made public restrictions for high positions of Brazil, Granada and some African countries.
In March, Granadino Finance Minister Dennis Conrnwall, who studied economy in Pinar del Río, said he fully defended the Cuban personnel hiring system. “I fully support Cubans at any time and place, because I think they are making a very useful and human service to the Government of Granada and the people of Granada. If it means that the United States government has to take our visas because we support this initiative, it doesn’t matter,” he declared in a video broadcast then by the Foreign Ministry of Cuba.

The Government of the Caribbean island announced on August 15, in any case, that it was collaborating “actively” with the United States authorities to study changes, but the State Department withdrew the Visa to Conrnwall that same month, as well as Ophelia Cornwall, ex -wife of the minister and current couple of the former prime minister, Keith Mitchell.
The terms of the agreement currently achieved, although organizations that have systematically denounced the medical missions organized by Havana, such as Cuba Archive, warned about the possibility that the toilets receive full payment but end up donating it, voluntarily or forced, to the regime, are unknown.
