Brazil closed the month of August with a positive balance of 147,358 jobs with a formal contract. The balance is from the new General Register of Employees and Unemployed (New Caged) released on Monday (29) by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE). The MTE reported that the August outcome took place from 2,239,895 admissions and 2,092,537 dismissals in the period.
The balance of formal jobs in August exceeded the recorded in July, which was 134,251. Despite the result, Employment creation fell again due to the high interest rates and the deceleration of the economy compared to the same month last year, when 239,069 were generated.
Four of the five large groupings presented a positive result. The service sector closed the month with 81,002 new jobs; Trade with 32,612; Industry 19,098; Construction was 17,328. Agriculture registered negative balance of 2,665 vacancies.
Last month was registered positive balance in 25 of 27 states. In absolute numbers, the highlight was São Paulo, with 45,450 new vacancies filled; Rio de Janeiro, with 16,128 and Pernambuco, with 12,692.

Proportionally, the highlight was Paraíba that grew 1.61%, Rio Grande do Norte, with 0.98%and Pernambuco, with growth of 0.82%. Of the total posts generated in the month, 75.1% were considered typical and 24.9% not typical, with emphasis on workers with a journey of up to 30 hours per week (40,544, especially in the area of education) and apprentices (20,252).
In the last 12 months (July 2024 to August 2025), the positive balance is 1,438,243 new formal vacancies. The result is lower than that recorded from June 2024 to July 2025, when job creation closed with 1,804,122 jobs.
The real average admission salary in August 2025 reached R $ 2,295.01, with a increase of R $ 12.70 (+0.56%) compared to July, when it was R $ 2,282.31.
