The Federation of Cargo Transport Entrepreneurs (Fedetranscarga) made an urgent call to the government to reinforce security measures on the Pasto -Buenaventura route, Given the increase in theft cases that have left millions of losses to the sector.
The application is aimed at the Ministry of Defense, the National Police and the Army, in order to adopt immediate actions against this problem that directly affects coffee transport in the southwest of the country.
In the last ten months there have been 18 consummated thefts, two attempts and a looting in that road corridor, which have represented losses greater than $ 6,300 million, according to the transporter guild.

The facts are mainly concentrated in the sector known as Vía La Fonda, in Patía Caucano. There, criminals divert the load vehicles to later transfer them to Sajandí (Cauca), where the illegal discharge of the product is made.

The investigations indicate as responsible for these robberies to the Carlos Patiño Structure, FARC dissentwhich increases the risk for drivers and transport entrepreneurs who mobilize coffee daily.
According to Federanscarga, more than 3,100 coffee bags are transported every day, considered strategic for the national economy.
The situation has led to transporters to express their refusal to continue providing the service in the current conditions of insecuritybecause not only vehicles and load are at risk, but also the life of drivers.
This position, according to the guild, could directly impact regional and national economic stability, since coffee is one of the country’s main export products.

Fedotranscarga requested urgently increasing police and the army’s force in this area of the Colombian southwestwith the aim of guaranteeing safety in the road corridor, protecting the life of transport workers and ensuring the mobility of the coffee production chain.
