Senate asks for greater surveillance in rural roads to stop the robbery of carriers

The Senate called on governors to work in coordination with the Ministry of Citizen Security and Protection and the National Guard to strengthen surveillance and operations in rural roads and communication routes in the country with the purpose of preventing and reducing theft and assaults to carriers.

He also approved an exhort to the authorities of Mexico City to reinforce actions against organized crime and common crime, in order to guarantee the safety of its inhabitants.

In the first case, the opinion accepted by the Senatorial Plenary indicates that between 2015 and 2024, worrying figures were recorded regarding the robbery of carriers, mainly in the states of Nuevo León, Mexico, Puebla, Michoacán, Morelos, Tlaxcala and Jalisco, according to information from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

It emphasizes that security in rural areas is essential for the economic development of the country, however, in recent months various insecurity incidents have been reported that have affected livestock production and generated a climate of uncertainty in communities.

He points out that there are no reliable statistics on crimes in rural roads and this is due to the fear and uncertainty that prevails in the affected regions. There, agricultural producers and citizens in general face a double threat: “The presence of criminal groups operating with total impunity and fear of reprisals in case of denouncing.”

As for Mexico City, the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System has the registration that in January this year 55 malicious homicides were committed.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that during that same month 54 investigation folders were initiated for the aforementioned crime, which makes it prevail to strengthen safety actions.
