Nicolás Maduro said Sunday that the country is organized and prepared for “any eventuality”. This was stated after thousands of citizens, together with state agencies, carried out on Saturday a national drill of emergencies for natural disasters or some “armed conflict.”
This activity was done after the seismic swarm that affected the west of the country this week, and also in view of the military deployment that the United States maintains in the Caribbean Sea, denounced by Caracas as a “threat” against him.
“I congratulate the massive participation of the Venezuelan people in the National Civil Protection drill carried out throughout the country. From urban areas to rural and coastal, all sectors and institutions of the State were activated with discipline and awareness.. This was expressed by Maduro through Telegram.
Maduro says they are ready to face any threat
This day, the president continued, demonstrates that Venezuela “is awake, organized and prepared to face any eventuality”, and that “the articulation between the people and the State” is the “greatest strength” of the South American nation.
“Here nobody improvises: we have plans, answers and will to face what comes. The stability of Venezuela is defended with preparation, union and love for life,” he added.
The simulation was carried out in residential buildings, state institutions, public companies, transport systems and in educational and health centers, with a deployment of 11,767 officials of different agencies throughout the territory.
According to an official balance, 411 emergency scenarios were simulated, such as “floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, heat blows, fires, sliding, war attacks, social shock, massive poisoning, solid waste fires, technological events, hazardous materials and contamination of biological agents.”
The citizens, says the government, participated voluntarily and received instructions on “what the organization should be” and the answer in these “special cases of disaster or risk.”
The head of Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, explained that this drill was also part of the process of enlistment and preparation of militiamen activated last month “in the face of the aggression of imperialism”, as it usually calls the United States and which he described as “threats” of the American country that, he said, “have intensified” since August.
The day was convened by Maduro last Thursday, after they were registered until the early hours of that day 10 earthquakes and 21 replicas.
