President Luis Abinader, announced on Sunday the beginning of three important works for the city of Santiago, which include the integral removal of the Hastaje Yaque, the construction of the Mirador del Yaque project in the area known as New York Chiquito and other sanitation.
These works are added to the initiatives promoted by the Government, oriented to the recovery of public spaces, the modernization of urban infrastructure and the improvement of the quality of life of the munícipes.
The transformation of the lodging already will be a clear response to the commitment to dignify the markets and return to the city a modern, organized and safe place.
During the act, President Abinader described this work as the main public market in Santiago and a nerve point for small and medium merchants, as well as for farmers in the region.
The president recalled that, since his beginnings in political life, he heard the claim of citizens about the need to improve these facilities, so today meets that commitment.
“Yaque lodging is a clamor of decades, here the economy of hundreds of small and medium merchants moves, as well as farmers from all over the region who come to sell their products. I always said that the great works would be done by the central government and that the small and medium -sized would make them accompanied by the City Council, and that is what we are fulfilling today,” said Abinader.
The Head of State reported that, through the complementary budget approved last week, the Government transferred 658 million pesos to start the works. Of that sum, approximately 70 % will be intended for lodging Yaque and another part to sanitation works, including La Cañada de Gurabo and the area known as “New York Chiquito”, which will be transformed into a park.
President Abinader highlighted the need for the project to be the result of a consensus among all sectors linked to the market.
This design must include small, medium and large merchants. No one can be left out. We want it to be an integral and participatory solution, ”the president reiterated.

The ruler projected that, if the bidding process begins within one month and the execution advances efficiently, the lodging would be ready for the first quarter of 2027.
Project will transform the pedagogical market
On his side, the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, described as historical the visit of President Luis Abinader to the city, announcing the construction of the Great Lodging Yaque, a three -level work that will transform the pedagogical market and guarantee better conditions of inclusion and participation for all merchants and users.
Rodríguez reported that the transfer of the corresponding funds was already carried out to initiate the work, complying with a commitment assumed by President Abinader with the development of Santiago.
Likewise, the mayor stressed that for years the market remained in conditions of abandonment, despite its relevance in the commercialization of most foods consumed in the region. He indicated that the project responds to a joint work between the City Hall and the Central Government, working as a single team in favor of the city.
The construction of the great lodging Yaque seeks to order the space and provide it with the necessary conditions to positively impact the health, economy and social life of the population of Santiago.
