To provide comprehensive care with human rights approach to asylum, shelter and benefits of complementary protection in Mexico, this Sunday a new multiservicious center (CMS-T) was inaugurated in Tapachula, Chiapas.

The Undersecretary of Human Rights, Population and Migration, Arturo Medina, explained that this space reflects the commitment of the Mexican State with those who seek international protection in the country.

The act were present by the governor of Chiapas, Eduardo Ramírez, the general coordinator of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (Comar), Xadeni Méndez; and the representative in Mexico of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Giovanni Lepri.

As well as the mayor of Tapachula, Yamil Melgar; the president of the State Judiciary, Juan Carlos Moreno; and Canada ambassador to Mexico, Cameron Mackay.

“This multiservicious center is a symbol of how solutions can be knitted when the political will, international solidarity, the participation of civil society and the confidence of the communities are joined.

“As public servants, we are very clear about our president’s mandate: humanism is the guide for our government and we put in the center people, their rights and their well -being,” said Medina.

In 2024, Tapachula received 65% of applications in the country to provide asylum to people in the need for international protection, so the CMS-T, a new headquarters of the region in the municipality, will materialize an interdisciplinary model that will allow the number of procedures and services related to the subject.

In turn, the general coordinator of the region, Xadeni Méndez, stressed that the opening of the center constitutes an advance in the policy of attention and integration of people with international protection needs.

He said that not only is the institutional capacity strengthened to guarantee the right to request and receive asylum on the southern border, but also advances towards the consolidation of a unique model in the region to provide lasting solutions.

The Multiservicios Center, built in a land donated by the Chiapas government, is the result of a strategic alliance between federal and local governments, UNHCR and donors from different countries.

There, instances will provide attention such as UN System agencies, civil organizations and government entities that provide humanitarian assistance services, guidance and channeling to people in mobility context.

Legal advice, documentation, medical and psychosocial assistance will be given, as well as accompaniment to children and adolescents not accompanied, job offers and well -being programs, among others.

With the above, it seeks to guarantee ordered and coordinated processes at all stages of the procedure for recognizing the status of refugee, in collaboration with authorities of the three government orders, international organizations and civil society.
