Who is Adam Augusto López?
Family
Adam Augusto López Hernández was born on September 24, 1963 in Paraíso, a municipality in northern Tabasco. He is currently 62 years old. She is the son of Aurora Hernández, a normalist teacher and Payambé López, a notary public who was in PRI Tabasco. He has two sisters and a brother, Rosalinda, Silva and Melchor.
Rosalinda López, who was the previous General Fiscal Audit Administrator of the SAT, and is married to Rutilio Escandón, consul General Deméxico in Miami and previous governor of Chiapas.
Silvia Aurora, Adam’s older sister of Augustus, is an accountant of profession and is the wife of Humberto Mayans Canabal, who was secretary of Government of Tabasco from 2007 to 2011, and recently ceased to be an independent advisor to Pemex.
Adam Augusto López is married to the Bachelor of Administration, Dea Isabel Estrada Rodríguez, with whom he has three children: Adam Payambé, Augusto Andrés López Estrada and Adrián Jesús López Estrada.
Education
He studied the Law career at the Universidad Juárez Autonomo de Tabasco. In addition, he conducted comparative law courses at the Comparative Law Institute in Paris.
He has a Master in Political Science from the Sorbonne University New-Paris 3 and a diploma in notarial law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Political and partisan career
Augusto López began his political career in 2000, under the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). At that time he was Manuel Andrade Díaz campaign coordinator, who contended for the governorship of Tabasco.
In 2003, he changed course by joining the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), with which he obtained a local council in the 58 Tabasco Legislature for the IV Electoral District, from 2006 to 2009.
Later, he managed to win the Federal Diputación for the IV District of his native state in the 61th Legislature, between 2010 and 2012.
In 2006, the PRD nominated the presidency of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, López Hernández exercised the function of regional campaign coordinator for several southern states, such as Campeche, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, Veracruz and Yucatán.
Between 2012 and 2014 he was in the Senate of the Republic as representative of the PRD, but then he joined the political movement of López Obrador, later appointed as Morena.
He was Governor of Tabasco from 2019 to 2021, and requested a license to join as Secretary of the Interior, which he exercised until June 16, 2023, to run in the internal process of Morena to choose his candidate for the presidency.
Before being a “corcholata”, it did not have a recognized national public profile. During this process, he had various events to which he began to have notoriety. However, he was not elected to contend for the presidency in Morena.
Currently, he exercises as leader of Morena in the Senate of the Republic.
Irregular income and link with the barredora
The current controversies that keep Adam Augusto López under scrutiny are a journalistic investigation of N+ Focus, in which he revealed that he received 79 million pesos of private companies, including a “ghost”, and this income was not included in their patrimonial statement, an obligation that public servants have.
President Claudia Sheinbaum even asked the senator to clarify the origin of these resources during her morning conference.
On September 26, 2025, Augusto López held a press conference where he showed documents of patrimonial statements, where he stressed that the accumulated revenues in 2023 and 2024 amount to 56 million pesos, in addition to the resources of two inheritances left by his father in the United States.
He clarified that during the months in which he was not a public servant, when he separated from the Ministry of the Interior, he received income from professional activities in the GH Business Services company, which the SAT said it was “ghost”. López added that the institution withdrew this comment.
However, another of the toughest accusations was to have appointed Hernán Bermúdez Requena as Secretary of Security of Tabasco during his governorship, who is accused of being the leader of the La Barredora criminal group, dedicated to drug trafficking and extortion.
Bermúdez was arrested on September 12 in Paraguay and extradited to Mexico for an arrest warrant for the crimes of criminal association, extortion and express kidnapping.
At the same press conference on September 26, Adam August and apologized for it.
“But I don’t, let’s say, I don’t feel bad, if that is his question, for having named Hernán Bermúdez, he gave results, at least during the time I was as governor there was a significant reduction” of crimes such as kidnapping.
