The Minister of Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, said this Saturday that they are developing an artificial intelligence policy (AI), which includes the construction of an infrastructure and ethics, as well as training programs in the field.
The minister said that a technology and research center is in the process of construction, with which they can also count the other nine member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the peoples of Our America (ALBA), while training training programs have been created in engineering in artificial intelligence, data science and cybersecurity.
“We have an entire academic ecosystem that allows to embrace our youth that is graduating from the high school level,” he said in an interview with the Venezuelan state television channel (VTV), during which he explained that the educational processes “must be hybrid” and balance “digital skills with classics.”
The official also reported the development of a plan, of which he did not give details, and of a code of ethics, as well as a bill that will regulate the use of AI, unanimously approved in the first discussion by the National Assembly in November 2024, so that its debate is still pending article by article in the plenary for its final approval.
“Everything is in full development,” said Jiménez.

Last July, El País signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company Iflytek for the joint development of AI technologies, which, according to Maduro, meant the entrance of the South American country “through the big door” to this technology.
