Sheinbaum describes "historical" according to EU on arms trafficking

“The United States will reinforce operations in the United States to control the passage of weapons to Mexico. An agreement of this type had never been reached,” he said.

The federal president ruled out that her government would accept interventions from the neighboring country that could at risk the independence of Mexico in order to carry out this collaboration.

For the counter, he presumed, is the result of his government’s work during the visit of Marco Rubio, secretary of the United States Department of State, who landed in Mexico in early September.

These dialogues, he added, allowed the bilateral agenda, for the first time, to focus on arms trafficking and not only on the fight against fentanyl or irregular migration.

“Sovereignty is something that will never be negotiated, ever. That will never be negotiating,” he said in an event in Sinaloa.

“They always say that the central themes are what goes from Mexico to the United States. But now, for the first time, the first thing that was discussed were the weapons that come from the United States to Mexico,” he said.

This Friday, representatives of both countries held in McAllen, Texas, the inaugural meeting of the Mexico-United States Security Implementation Group, a mechanism for dialogue and cooperation agreed on the visit of Marco Rubio. In his first dialogue, the beginning of the “Cantival Mission was agreed: united initiative against arms trafficking”.

“This initiative proposes to disrupt the illicit arms traffic through the border between the United States and Mexico,” the US State Department said.

He added that the strategy includes facilitating the extended use of Etrace and the ballistic image technology in the 32 states; Achieve advances in information exchange platforms, and increase criminal prosecutions and bilateral investigations.

“The United States will intensify inspections and coordination with Mexico to stop the flow of firearms towards the south,” he said.

The formation of another bilateral work group was also agreed to combat cross -border illegal financing and reinforce cooperation in the confiscation of civil assets.

The group, composed of representatives of six governmental institutions of the two nations, will meet periodically to strengthen border security.
