After her participation in the UN General Assembly in New York, President Dina Boluarte will be present at the closure of the 37 Mining Convention Perumin that is held in Arequipa. The president must close one of the most important events in this sector with a speech.
It will be the first time that the head of state attends this mining meeting. On 2023 the president chose not to appear before the most representative mining entrepreneurs in the country, in the midst of a rejection scenario in that region, whose settlers reminded the president who supported the non -execution of the Aunt María Mining Project.
The truth is that Boluarte has taken a radical turn to its position on mining. It is no longer shown against projects such as the Cupriferous in Arequipa, which he publicly rejected in the 2021 campaign, when she was a candidate for the vice presidency in the list of Pedro Castillo and criticized the large mining companies to contaminate the environment. “First life, then mining,” he said in an event in May of that year.
Then, being Minister of State, he participated in the Davos Economic Forum on behalf of Pedro Castillo and in his speech he also attacked mining companies for contaminating rivers and grasslands in the country.
The president’s position is now in favor of formal mining. A few weeks ago, he held illegal mining for citizen deaths during the protests between December 2022 and March 2023 and linked them with crimes such as women’s trafficking, child labor, and even environmental pollution, which he previously attributed to large mining companies.
In July Boluarte he called for a work table to solve the problem of informal mining, in the midst of the protests of the illegal for expanding the reinfill.
