Most popular award for national literature, the traditional Jabuti Award will be revealed on October 27. In preparations for its 67th edition, the organization, by the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL), released on Friday (26) the list of semifinalists, with ten indicated in each of the 23 categories.
The list will go through a new knockout phase, and on October 7 will be known the five finalists, competing for the R $ 5,000 prize.
This year, the 4,350 works enrolled dispute the special book category of the year, for which they will receive the amount of R $ 70 thousand and the place to represent the country at the London Book Fair, highlighting the year of the year of Brazil-United Real Culture. All works that compete for the award were published in 2024.
With the presence of publishers of various sizes, the celebration honors this year the writer Ana Maria Machado, one of the most present names in national editorial production, awarded three jabutis and member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters (GLA). The 83 -year -old Carioca also received the Hans Cristian Andersen Award, considered the largest international highlight for authors of children’s literature.
The Jabuti Award stands out for rewarding both debutants and small publishers and well -known names and giants in the sector. Among the best known names, authors such as Monja Cohen, Christian Dunker, Ruy Castro, Carpinejar, Miguel Nicolelis and Daniel Munduruku, as well as a curious double participation by Chico Buarque, who disputes the category of best literary romance, for his own Bambino to Romefiction, but also appears as the theme of the work Chico Buarque in 80 Songsby André Simões.
