The deputy general secretary of the Council of Palma Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC), Musdhalifah Machmud, announced in Cartagena de Indias that companies and government leaders of Indonesia, Malaysia and Latin America They seek to integrate Colombia into a global cooperation strategy to boost a world -class palmiculture.

Currently, the CPOPC is made up of Indonesia and Malaysia as founding countries, with Honduras, Papua New Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo as full members. Colombia, Ghana and Nigeria participate as observer countries that contribute to common efforts. In Latin America, in addition to Colombia, the Council has extended invitation to Honduras, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela.

CPOPC representatives recalled that Indonesia and Malaysia concentrate between 84% and 85% of world palm oil production.
