Netanyahu defends his offensive against Gaza in the UN for an almost empty assembly in protest

Israeli prime minister, Benjamín Netanyahu, intervened this Friday in the General Assembly of the UN in New York, where he assured that Israel “must end the work” in the Gaza Strip and that his intention is to do it “as soon as possible.”

“The last elements, the last remnants of Hamas, are entrenched in the city of Gaza. They swore to repeat the atrocities of October 7 over and over again,” he said, referring to the offensive that Israel maintains on the Palestinian enclave.

Netanyahu too He reiterated that his government will not recognize a Palestinian State. “It’s crazy and we won’t,” he said.

He emphasized that he will not commit a “national suicide” accessing that possibility, adding: “My position against a Palestinian State is the policy of the State and the population of the state of Israel.”

As he said, accepting that option would be “rewarding fans who supported” October attacks, the agency said EFE.

Empty Assembly by the presence of Netyahu

The appearance of Netanyahu was marked by a gesture of diplomatic protest: dozens of delegates from different countries left the room at the time their intervention beganleaving the plenary practically empty.

Although it is not clear if the action was coordinated, it is estimated that about a hundred representatives were absent during their speech in protest against the Israel genocide in Gaza, which has caused death to tens of thousands of Palestinians.

In anticipation of this situation, groups of Israelis and Jews – identifiable by the Kipás and the yellow ties in solidarity with the hostages – occupied the balconies of the General Assembly, from where they applauded and launched shouts of support to the prime minister.

The intervention was surrounded by a climate of rejection beyond the UN. In the streets of New York, Thousands of people marched against their presence in the city, denouncing the genocide from Israel in Gaza and showing solidarity with the Palestinian people, according to eldiario.es.
