Caram Herrera was a prominent Dominican economist and politicianwho occupied important public functions In the Dominican state and assumed high responsibilities in the Parties system of the country.
- He worked like Governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic between September 1989 and 1990. Previously, in 1986, he was appointed Technical Secretary of the Presidencyand in 1989 he was appointed Secretary of State for Finance.
In 1968 he was chosen councilor of the City Council of the National Districtand in that position he was appointed President of the Public Works Commission and planning.
Who was it Guillermo Caram?
Guillermo Caram Herrera was born in San Pedro de Macorís on January 28, 1941. He developed an extensive Trajectory in public life of the Dominican Republic, performing in key areas such as economic planning, public administration, politics and university teaching.
He graduated from Civil Engineering at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo in 1961. Subsequently, he made a Master in Planning at the Lima Planning Institute, under the auspices of the OAS and with the academic accompaniment of Yale University.
His thesis, focused on a Methodology for research Regional planning, it was recommended for publication.
- Since the beginning of the 1960s, he held different technical positions in the National Planning Office (ONAPAN), where he served as Director of Urban Planning, Director of Social Programming and Technical Deputy Director.
In this last position, he led the elaboration of the Public Investment Program 1968–1970 and del First National Development Plan 1970–1974. He also participated as a technical counterpart in the OAS advice programs, the IDB and ECLAC after the April 1965 revolution.
The funeral of Guillermo Caram Herrera will take place this Friday at the Cristo Redentor cemetery, in the National District.
