A program rich in theater, opera, dance, music of different genres, a film cycle, a series of tributes to great names of the arts in Mexico and the world, as well as an olfactory and sound installation, among other activities, are about to be launched as part of the fourth edition of the UNAM Culture Festival, organized by the Cultural Diffusion Coordination of this same house of studies, to be held from September 26 to October 11 with a total of 79 activities. Part 135 people from 17 countries.

From this program, there are several activities to highlight. For example, this Friday there will be a tribute to the legendary Soprano María Callas, one of the great opera figures in history. It is a play written by the playwright Amaranta Osorio, played by the soprano and actress Cecilia Eguiarte, under the direction of Daniela Parra. This will happen in the Carlos Chávez room at 6:00 p.m.

On Sunday, October 5, a contemporary version of the “Giselle” ballet classic will be offered, which has been subtitle “those that did not return”, with the execution of the Choreographic Workshop of the UNAM (TCUNAM) and the Orchestra of the Chamber of Fine Arts, as a collaboration with the inbal and the Cervantino festival. The adaptation is the work of the choreography of Melva Olivas, who takes up the classic ballet work to adapt it to the violent Mexican reality.

That same day, in the Nezahualcóyotl room, the voice of one of the most recognized opera figures will be heard in our country, the tenor Ramón Vargas, who, accompanied by the pianist José Angel Rodríguez, will share the best of his repertoire, from the sonnets of Petrarca de Liszt, to great arias of his repertoire and, of course, prominent moments of the Mexican song.

And there will be more tributes for the Italian composer Luciano Berio, in the centenary of his birth, the same motivation to celebrate the French composer and director Pierre Boulez, as well as for the Italian teacher Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, 500 years after his birth.

They cancel music against oblivion

As one of the strong activities of the UNAM Culture Festival, a musical celebration called music against oblivion, with exponents of electronics, trap, rap, rock, the son and music of the world, all in a stage to settle in the esplanade of the islands, on the Central Central Campus of the University City. However, this Wednesday transcended the announcement of its cancellation, so far only this event, given the events that occurred last Monday at the College of Sciences and Humanities (CCH) South campus.

“UNAM culture regrets the terrible events that took place last Monday at the southern campus of the College of Sciences and Humanities, joins the mourning of the victims and the university community, and continues to work to reduce violence and favor a culture of peace,” the coordination in charge of the meeting announced.
