BB strengthens green credit operations with uptake of $ 100 million

Banco do Brasil announced the capture of US $ 100 million with the French Bank Credit Agricole CIB, aimed at the financing lines to sustainable projects in Brazil. The appeal is intended for Operation Eco Invest Green Repo, part of the Eco Invest Brazil program, and is intended to make companies that seek their business and chains more sustainable through investments in ecological transition. The funds raised will be directed to the refinancing of credit operations linked to sustainable projects in Brazil, covering several fields, from investment in renewable energy matrices to the implementation of low -carbon agricultural practices.

The program establishes two auctions. The first, which began in May this year, is focused on projects in the areas of energy efficiency, circular economy, bioeconomics and green industrial infrastructure. The funds began to be released in June, at $ 1.5 billion, expected R $ 4.8 billion.

The second auction, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, aims to serve projects focused on the recovery of degraded rural areas, focusing on increasing productivity in the field and efforts to reduce deforestation.

The characteristics of each auction are defined by the National Treasury Secretariat. Under the second auction, for example, 10% of resources should be directed to the caatinga biome and 50% to areas and projects that focus on food production.

“We will also have, in addition to the business segment, the possibility of allocation for individual rural producers and also investment and cooperative funds, which should also make the resource reach smaller producers,” he told the Brazil agency BB’s vice president of wholesale business, Francisco Lassalvia.

In the first auction, the profile was from companies linked to private and public projects, except for some smaller companies and without directing to biomes or states served.

French participation adds to another $ 4.5 billion in international resources aligned with climate impact commitments. Credit Agricole CIB is one of the ten largest investment banks in the world and has turned its attention to sustainable financing and environmental responsibility lines during this decade.

In early September, Credit Agricole was featured in the international news within a controversial case: it was the first French bank involved in a tax evasion scheme known as “Cum-Cum”. The institution presented investigations into its accounts, between 2013 and 2021, and reached a fine payment agreement of 88 million euros, avoiding a legal process for irregularities.
