THE Preview of the official inflation of September was 0.48%, mainly impacted by the price of electricity. In August, the Broad National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA -15) was -0.14%.
Already in September 2024 the indicator marked 0.13%. In 12 months, the IPCA-15 accumulates 5.32%. The figures were released on Thursday (25) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
From the previous data, annual inflation remains above the Government’s goal of 3% per year with tolerance of 1.5 percentage (PP) point (PP) to more or less, ie going to a maximum of 4.5%.
THE High of the electricity bill is explained by the “return” of the Itaipu bonusAugust discount that benefited 80.8 million consumers. In September, without the bonus, the invoice gets higher compared to the previous month.
IPCA-15 x IPCA
The IPCA-15 basically has the same IPCA methodology, the so-called official inflation, which is the basis for government inflation target policy.
The difference is in the price collection period and geographical scope. In the preview, the survey is done and released even before the reference month is over. Regarding current disclosure, the collection period was from 15 August to September 15.
Both indexes take into account a basket of products and services to families with income between one and 40 minimum wages. Currently, the minimum value is R $ 1,518.
The IPCA-15 collects prices in 11 locations in the country (the metropolitan regions of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Sao Paulo, Belém, Fortaleza, Salvador and Curitiba, as well as Brasilia and Goiânia.); and the IPCA, 16 locations (includes Vitória, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, São Luís and Aracaju). The “full” IPCA of September will be released on October 9th.
