He pointed out that, in the case of the Caribbean, that situation has a specific face: The sargassowhich he described as devastating for the region for its impact on the coast, the public health and the main sources of livelihood, such as tourism and fishing.
Faced with that reality, he claimed international solidarity and “climatic justice”, translated into accessible financing, technological transfer and urgent actions to protect the oceans.
During his speech before the United Nations General Assemblyhe presented the main global challenges from the perspective of developing countries and the Caribbean, while reiterating the commitment of the Dominican Republic with multilateralism and the International cooperation.

The president recalled that the UN was born “of the War ashes”With the mission of preventing humanity from wrecking again in hatred and barbarism.

He indicated that these global dynamics have concrete consequences for countries such as the Dominican Republic, citing volatility in raw material prices for armed conflicts, new tariffs that generate uncertainty in international trade, vulnerability to extreme climatic phenomena and the erosion of citizen confidence due to digital misinformation.
A woman to the UN
Abinader also addressed the next process of election of a new UN Secretary General, where he defended the leadership of Latin America and the Caribbean in this historical moment.
