Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, said on Wednesday (24) that more than 60 developing countries requested help from the Energy Research Company (EPE) to set up a program similar to GAS OF THE PEOPLE. The government’s initiative, launched this month, foresees a free supply of cooking gas to 17 million families in vulnerable situations by 2026.
The statement was given during the opening of Liquid Gas Week 2025 in Rio de Janeiro. According to the minister, the program is an “example for the world” and will promote globally social and energy inclusion.
“We offer our expertise from our energy research company to bring this model to developing countries, especially African countries. We can help comply with the UN ODS 7, which meets what President Lula said to the world, which is only dialoguing that we will solve problems that are transversal to all,” said Silveira.
The People’s Gas Program provides for reducing the use of firewood and coal by homes. The measure, according to the ministry, will have a direct impact on the health of women and children and will contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and particulates.
“People’s gas is a national priority, and I am absolutely convinced that we are going to move to regulatory stability, for the safe execution of the program. We can celebrate, preserve the public health of women and children, especially in the Northeast, Jequitinhonha, Mucuri, northern Minas Gerais, northern Brazil, but also in southern Brazil and in the Midwest and departs in the Southeast. homes. “

Foz do Amazonas
During the interview, Minister Alexandre Silveira was also asked about the progress of environmental licenses for oil exploration in the mouth of Amazonas, the so -called equatorial margin. He estimated for the first half of 2026 the beginning of perforations.
“There has been advances in licensing, everyone knows this, the probes are already being prepared. The research will happen and I believe that, by geological studies, we will have great news regarding the discovery of oil.”
According to the minister, the agency is only following the technical processing of the process. “IBAMA [Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis] It is a state body that carefully accompanies environmental licensing. It is the natural time for technical issues to be completely resolved, but I really believe that we will have in the first half of next year good news regarding drilling on the equatorial margin, “said Silveira.
