The contribution of the poultry industry to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) It has doubled in the last ten years, going from RD $ 30,000 million to RD $ 60,000 million, in addition to its important contribution to national food security.
The biggest challenge of that sector is to maintain its competitiveness, so its representatives ask the State to protect the local production of unfair competition.
During their participation in today’s economic meeting, the directors of the Dominican Association of Poulticulture (ADA), Pavel Concepción, President and Miguel Lajara, Vocal, They highlighted the advances recorded by the production of chickens and eggs in the country, achieving self -sufficiency. Among the key factors that affect the strengthening of this sector include investment in technology, the adoption of biosafety practices and consumer demand.
They emphasized that the industry generates employment and contributes significantly to food security and the Dominican economy, due to modernization and support plans to stabilize prices and markets.
They indicated that in the country there are about 400 egg producers, around 1,000 chicken producers and 11 processing plants of that bird, mobilizing a logistics effort that involves hundreds of workers in the collection and transfer of those products.

Possible mecosur agreement
The executives of the ADAP remembered that the Dominican Republic and the six member countries of the common market (Mercosur) recently signed a statement to deepen political and economic dialogue and initiate negotiations for a free trade agreement.
In that sense, they expressed their fear that this agreement will generate unfair competition that threatens the development of the local poultry industry, since the practice of some countries is to sacrifice gain margins to seize markets and after breaking the local industry increase prices.
Exports 20% egg production
The Dominican poultry industry exports 20% of its egg production.
Only the production of this protein adds a value of RD $ 21,000 million to the national economy.
According to figures offered by the Dominican Poultry Association (ADA) in the country there are 400 egg producers. And 8,400 units are produced per minute, which 60, Ooo million per month go to the markets of Haiti, Cuba, Aruba, Bahamas, Saint Martín and Guyana.
