For those who “betray the confidence of the people”, the political will is “zero impunity, and the signal to the entire nation is unequivocal and firm: there will be punishment and sanction for those who commit a crime, regardless of its hierarchical level or its economic position,” said the head of the Ministry of the Interior (SG), Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, who claimed the figure of former President Andrés Manuel López. The opposition.
When appearing before the plenary of the Chamber of Deputies, as part of the gloss of the first government report of President Claudia Sheinbaum, he stressed the greatness of Mexico in terms of population, territory and economic potential, and said that in the administration of which it is part there is no repression or censorship.
In his initial speech before the legislators, of just over half an hour, Rodríguez Velázquez also emphasized that “Mexico is not condemned to violence, but for peace”, and pointed out that the dependency in charge has carried out an outstanding work of attention to the demands of various social actors.
He offered legislators an overview of the state of the country, in which he stressed that not only the peso is strong against the dollar, but that the country has high levels of foreign direct investment and tourist activity, and with social programs that meet the needs of the population of lower resources.
In response to a banner placed by the PAN bench at the foot of the tribune, where the phrase “110 thousand missing” was read, Rodríguez Velázquez pointed out that the current administration reinforced the search capacity of the missing persons, after carrying out an “unprecedented process of active listening” with more than 450 groups, where 570 proposals emerged.
“This is not a secondary or passenger theme, it is a priority and we want the missing people to return with their loved ones, that the seeking mothers have peace and know where their children are.”
He acknowledged that “there are important challenges and challenges, but Mexico is great and is at peace.” He also stressed that in the country “there are no political persecuted, but neither is margin for impunity. There is no repression or censorship here.”
In economy issues, the head of the Interior said that the peso was seen against the dollar: there is a “record” of 34 billion dollars in foreign direct investment in the first half of 2025, and the tourism sector “exceeded expectations”, with more than 32 billion dollars in 2022.
Regarding security issues, he said that “the commission of crimes or acts of corruption will not stop the progress of a project that promotes the majority.”
Although the appearance was developed in a measured tone by almost all parliamentary groups, the exception was the PAN bench, which in the voice of Deputy Marcelo Torres Cofiño criticized the officials of the official, regarding the alleged decline in the crime indices, and gathered his criticisms of López Obrador and his family.
The legislator recalled that his party filed a complaint against the children of the former president for his alleged participation in various serious crimes, and stressed that his signaling “is not a political attack: it is the creation and operation of the Palenque Cartel, a network where organized crime, politics and relatives of the former president are mixed. You cannot deny the obvious: López Obrador did rob, he did lied and did not add up to the people.
Rodríguez Velázquez replied that “the right has always tried to discredit the greatest social leader of the recent era. Despite all criticism, López Obrador managed to prove that he was right: his policies decreased poverty. We had a lot of president and today we have a lot of president!”
