Ana Covarrubias emphasizes the public nature of El College of Mexico

The College of Mexico (Colmex) is one of the public institutions that defends knowledge, science and culture, and affects debate and public policies through high-level research, says Ana Covarrubias Velasco, new president of this house of studies for the period 2025-2030, who emphasized that one of its objectives will be to take away the perception that it is a private school.

During the inauguration ceremony in the esplanade of this school, the international relations specialist stressed that her administration will work to find solutions that the country needs in issues of education, migration, socio -economic inequalities, water, water, violence, women and the environment, among others.

Through the eight research centers and the Interdisciplinary Studies program “we will collaborate in nurturing Mexican society and discussing our identity in a post -gobal world,” he said.

In an interview with The day, Covarrubias explained that from the first day of its management will begin a strong dissemination campaign to highlight the academic offer of El Colegio de México and emphasize that it is a public institution.

“We do not charge the admission exam or the tuition; in addition, the student who needs can request a scholarship from the science, humanities, technology and innovation (Secihti) or the one granted by the federal government called Elisa Acuña.”

He highlighted the collection in Humanities and Social Sciences of the Colmex Library, which is also public and has a free access digital repository. He emphasized that they not only have studies on Mexico, since the centers that make up the institution contribute to understanding Asian, African countries; To know the Arab culture, the Japanese art, the history of China and the conflict in the Middle East, among others.

As for the gender approach, he said that the protocol will continue to prevent cases of harassment, sexual harassment and gender violence that launched its predecessor Silvia Giorguli Saucedo.

The workshops of this topic, on the one hand, said, will develop key concepts about what harassment, harassment and consent is, among other aspects. On the other hand, it will be explained how the protocol works, with the objective that if a student feels attacked, if he considers that he was a victim of sexual violence, harassment or harassment, know what he has to do and with whom he can go with.

During the ceremony, the outgoing president Silvia Giorguli-first woman to direct the Colmex and who was two consecutive periods at the head of the Colmex (2015-2020, 2020-2025)-pointed out that the main strength of this institution is the ability to read the changes and discuss in an area of ​​tolerance the differences of visions and assessments on the subjects of situation.
