The former mayor of Lima, Susana Villarána few hours after the beginning of the trial for the alleged crimes of Money laundering and corruption for receiving illicit contributions from Brazilian construction companies Odebrecht and OAS during the campaign against the 2013 revocation.
The former mayor declared in an interview with RPP that only her and her former municipal manager, José Miguel Castro —Who was found dead on June 29 in non -clarified circumstances, “they had knowledge of the contributions. “The rest of the people included in this trial have no responsibility”he said.
Asked about the amounts of the contributions, Villarán acknowledged having received them, but avoided giving an exact figure.
The municipal ex -authority denied that it was 11 million dollars as the Prosecutor’s Office maintains: “At this time I cannot give it an exact amount, but it was an important sum of money. Very far, of course, of that exormerly sum of 11 million that we do not know where it came from.”
Response to López Aliaga
Villarán responded to the statements of the current mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, who publicly requested to be guilty.
“The burgomaster should deal with more of the affairs of the city, that is his task. I do not have to answer that man who occupies the municipal chair.”
The exburgomaestre added that López Aliaga’s expressions respond to a personal opinion: “That he declares me guilty is a Lord’s desire, I respect his opinion, but I do not share it.”
Insists on his innocence
Villarán insisted on his innocence and victimized. “I am not afraid of truth. I hope this trial is fair, impartial and respectful. I will defend my truth and I will do it publicly,” he said in The air rotary of RPP.
The Prosecutor’s Office asks for 29 years in prison for Villarán for the alleged crimes of money laundering and own passive bribery.
“Yes there is a disappointment and I have damaged the confidence of many people, but I am not a corrupt person and our management has been absolutely transparent.”
Villarán denied having committed acts of corruption during his municipal management (2011–2014) and argued that campaign contributions are not linked to improper benefits for Brazilian construction companies.
“There has been no act of corruption. Our management has been absolutely transparent, open to the media and citizens. I am not a corrupt person,” he emphasized.
The exburgomaestre acknowledged that her prolonged silence affected citizen trust, but insisted that this does not make her guilty.
