THE President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met on Tuesday (23) with the president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, in New York, In the United States, on the sidelines of the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN).
According to a statement from the Planalto Palace, Lula invited Boluarte to participate in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP30in Belém, in November.
The Peruvian President confirmed the presence and recalled that most of the Amazon is precisely in the territories of Brazil and Peru. Boluarte also expressed interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation to overcome some of the challenges that affect the region, such as food insecurity, the scarcity of road connections and organized crime, Planalto said.
Also according to the Brazilian government, Lula lamented the distance between the two countries in recent years and emphasized Brazil’s interest in reconnament from the neighboring country, stating that there are no individual solutions for the development of South America. Lula referred to the South American Integration Routes Program, which includes the road connection between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans from Brazil to Peru.
Lula also suggested a working meeting with the participation of ministers and technicians from both countries to define joint initiatives agenda.
“They both agreed to promote the meeting by the end of the year and continue working to strengthen ties between the two countries,” said Planalto.

Earlier, Lula opened the deliberative session of the UN General Assembly, in a speech emphasizing Brazilian sovereignty, criticizing unilateral sanctions and condemning genocide in Gazain Palestine, promoted by Israel.
