Months ago, Shakira proudly announced a new work of its barefoot feet. Today that dream is a reality: the municipality of Tibú, in the Catatumbo, has an educational institution that promises to transform the lives of thousands of children and families in a region marked by violence.
“I am very excited to share with all of you a great news: we just finished the construction of our new school in Tibú, Colombia,” wrote the artist on her social networks.
Shakira stressed that this work has a special value to be located in a historically difficult area and “beaten by the war.” With emotion, he said that now Tibu children can start a new chapter in their lives, such as in Colombian Caribbean cities.
“As in Barranquilla and Cartagena, together we have shown that education brings hope and really transforms entire communities,” said the singer.

The project was possible thanks to the alliance between the Desalzos Foot Foundation, the Ministry of Education and the Howard G. Buffet Foundation. According to official figures, the work had an investment of $ 11,521 million by the National Government and $ 9,814 million of the Foundation led by Shakira.
Designed as a pedagogical, ecological and cultural park, the institution will offer quality education to more than 1,200 students each year.
The new school has 34 classrooms, physics and chemistry laboratories, library, bilingual room, technology classroom, arts and music workshops, in addition to multiple spaces for dining room and cultural activities.
Students can also enjoy a complete sports zone, with football court, multiple courts, skating track and children’s games. In total, more than 6,200 m² were built in a 30,000 m² lot, donated by Ecopetrol.
During its construction, the work generated about 160 direct and indirect jobs, promoting the local economy. In addition to being a school, it will work as a community development center, with sports, cultural, artistic, environmental and technological activities open to the entire population.
