The defendant of trying to kill Donald Trump last year in his Florida golf course was convicted on Tuesday.
The jury declared Ryan Routh guilty of all the positions he faced after two hours of deliberation. Routh had been accused of attempted murder against a presidential to, possession of a firearm to perpetrate a violent crime, aggression against a federal agent, possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convict and possession of a firearm with erased serial number.
He declared himself innocent of the charges and defended himself. The Prosecutor’s Office said Routh spent weeks planning to kill Trump before aiming with a rifle through the bushes while playing golf on September 15, 2024 at his West Palm Beach club.
Routh declared the jury that he had no intention of killing anyone that day. “It is hard for me to believe that a crime was committed if the trigger was never squeezed,” he said. He pointed out that he could see Trump while he was heading sixth hole in the golf course and pointed out that he could also have shot a secret service agent who confronted him if he had intended to damage someone.

Routh, 59, exercised his constitutional right not to testify in his own defense. He concluded his allegation on Monday morning after questioning only three witnesses – a firearm expert and two witnesses of character – for a total of approximately three hours. The prosecutors spent seven days questioning 38 witnesses.
Routh was a north Carolina construction worker who had moved to Hawaii in recent years. In the first days of the Russian War in Ukraine, Routh tried to recruit soldiers from Afghanistan, Moldova and Taiwan to fight the Russians.
In addition to federal positions, Routh also declared himself innocent of state terrorism positions and murder attempt.
After announcing the verdict, and when the jury began to leave the room, Routh grabbed a pen and tried to stab on the neck, which caused the intervention of federal custodians.
They took him out of the room, while his daughter, Sara Routh, shouted: “Dad, I love you, do not do anything,” he said. “I’ll get you out of here. He didn’t hurt anyone.”
