Minister of Justice announces technical viability for maximum security penalty in the pediment

The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Juan José Santiváñez, confirmed that the Maximum Security Prison project on the island The pediment already obtained technical viability by the National Penitentiary Institute (Iinpe).

“That report has been reformulated and the INPE has already granted viability to that proposal. And that has been reformulated I think week and a half ago,” he said in an interview with success.

The penitentiary establishment will be located on the island of Callao and will have the capacity to house 2,000 inmates of high danger. It will be built in an area of 57,000 square meters, with high safety standards, and will demand an estimated investment of S/500 million.

Restart of works in other penalties

Santiváñez said that in the next two weeks the restart of works in other prison enclosures will be announced. Among them, the Ica prison, the extension of Ancón 3 and Challapalca, as well as the new Criminals of Arequipa and Ica.
The objective – he pointed out – is to expand the penitentiary capacity and modernize the prison infrastructure in different regions of the country.

During the interview, the minister also referred to the prosecutor of the interim nation, Tomás Gálvez. He said he did not know him personally, but said that “he can do a great job because he has been the victim of a corrupt tax system.”

Regarding the controversial law of amnesty, Santiváñez revealed that the president evaluates an eventual departure from the Inter -American Court of Human Rights (IACHR). “The IACHR is ideologized, compensates the offender. Leaving the Court is something that is being evaluated and will be proposed to the Council of Ministers,” he said.

Finally, when asked about a possible political candidacy, he indicated that he has received proposals from various parties, but stressed that, for now, his priority is to continue in his ministerial functions.
