Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said he hoped the new Lace Tax exemption track (IR) for those who earn up to R $ 5,000 monthly to be sanctioned by October by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
In an interview with ICL Notícias Portal, on Tuesday (23), the minister said that the fight against social inequality is a primordial factor for the development of Brazil, which reinforces the position of the federal government in favor of expanding the exemption range.
If all goes well, the minister said, “20 million will stop paying to go during this term. We have already updated the exemption range three times in this government. In one term, we passed a range of $ 1.9 thousand [de isenção] to $ 5,000. There has never been that. ”
In Haddad’s assessment, income tax reform is the first real attempt of the Brazilian state to move the theme of inequality. “In addition, the income has increased by 3 years of 18% above inflation. It is not the one who is saying. These are IBGE data. It is the largest increase in income since the Real Plan.”
“It is one thing to combat misery, and President Lula is doing it for the second time, by taking Brazil off the map of hunger. Now, the theme of inequality has rarely touched. We are among the worst ten countries in terms of income distribution.”
The minister pointed out that, currently, the country still has more than $ 600 billion in tax waivers. “In my opinion, this is the biggest scandal. We managed to reverse $ 100 billion and it was all the criticism of the government, a resignation that was already beating $ 700 or $ 800 billion.” He said that the Government’s objective is to reduce the consumption tax by charging more income tax of the rich.
“The National Congress now has a very important opportunity to put Brazil on the Social Justice Route and the fight against inequality. We cannot continue to be one of the ten worst countries in terms of income distribution. It is very difficult to think about development with this level of inequality,” he added.
