The regional governor of Arequipa, Rohel Sánchez, announced in Perumin 37 that the mining project Aunt Maria It already has the necessary authorizations and that its construction will be carried out in October, but it will be the company that sets the date.
“According to what they have informed us, they are already ready to operate. It is an issue to set the date,” said Sánchez for RPP.
He also indicated that his management welcomes the private investment that dynamizes the economy, but that it will be strict in the supervision of the commitments assumed.
“We will be vigilant of the commitments that occur with what the corporate social responsibility means to investment means, leaving aside philanthropy and also environmental protection care,” he said.
On the other hand, he stressed that the industry is evolving, noting that currently modern mining operates with the highest standards.
“Current mining is no longer mining 20, 30 years ago because technology has advanced, innovation has been renewed and, therefore, the commitment of extractive activities (…) is in line with what has to do with the protection and care of the environment,” he said.
The head of the Regional Government of Arequipa said that the product of the mining activity, the region has received transfers for S/ 580 million between 2023 and 2025.
“And I am sure that this will continue in increase if the four large investments (Cerro Verde, Zafranal, Pampa de Pongo and Aunt María), which we have mentioned go and will allow us to advance to that extent,” he culminated.
