According to the approved text, the public authorities will require a declaration from the event organizer that there will be equal awards for men and women. If the person responsible for the event does not comply with the rule, he will be subject to the payment of a fine that can vary from R$5 thousand to R$ 200 thousand. The amount will be directed to federal actions to combat violence against women.

The project’s rapporteur, deputy Celina Leão (PP-DF), recalled that although the Constitution guarantees equal rights between men and women, “in practice this does not happen and women end up receiving less money than men”.

“Despite the constitutional determination, on many fronts, women have disadvantages in relation to men and in sport, unfortunately, it is no different”, he argued.
